about

“Crazy That You Love (El-B Remix)” is the latest single from North London’s Aurora Dee Raynes, featuring two re-workings from legendary UK Garage and Dubstep innovator and Groove Chronicles original member Lewis Beadle AKA El-B. The original track – taken from the debut ‘Invisible Things’ LP – gets a signature El-B garage reworking alongside a “dirty club vocal dub”, showcasing two different sides of the prolific producer and DJ. The release has received early upfront support from Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music).

Rife with emotional openness, “Crazy That You Love” explores the volatility of romantic relationships. The starkness of the opening chimes ring as they vibrate through the strings and low oboes that replace them, shuddering with the rawness of the original track. Amping up the BPM, El-B emphasises the catchiness of the hook with an eerie glow on “Crazy That You Love (El-B Remix)”. Allowing the vocal stylings to build over a UK Garage beat, the darkness of the hypnotic groove finds its place on the dancefloor, entrancing the listener. With a nod to his early sound, the El-B Dub Remix of the track teases El-B’s dub roots in the UKG scene. Built up around the sparseness of the track’s hook and dirty club rhythms, the perfect formation of the reworking feels like an immediate classic; something you can’t imagine ever didn’t exist.

The album ‘Invisible Things’ maps the trajectory of maturity, growth and synergy as a band, morphing and flowing to fit around each musician’s sound. The release features singles “Find My Way” and “The Letter”, and has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Huey Morgan and Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Marc Mac (4hero), Garth Trinidad and Aaron Byrd (KCRW), Clash Magazine, Bandcamp Weekly, THUMP, Stereofox, PopMatters, Laurent Garnier and Toshio Matsuura.

Grown out of voice notes and endless chord sequences and melodies exchanged between vocalist Danielle Kranendonk and keys player Nicholas Johnson, Kranendonk was first played “Crazy That You Love” in the studio by producer Stephen Raynes and co-producer/live drummer Tristan Williams (AKA Tehbis). The title was already set, and she was tasked with writing the rest. “I closed my eyes and thought about all the things that could make it crazy that you love”, she explains.

“For me, “Crazy That You Love” is a story about falling for someone who is important to you. It’s crazy that you can just move into that direction and when it happens, it shows.” Kranendonk adds, “it’s about having the strength as a woman in knowing what you want, falling for your friend, worrying about what might happen but at the same time being confident about what could happen and owning it. In some ways, it’s a song about female empowerment”.
