about

“Good For You (Shy One Remix)” sees London’s prolific DJ and producer Shy One rework the focus track from North London’s Aurora Dee Raynes debut album ‘Invisible Things’.

Beginning from a collaboration between , the LP maps the trajectory of maturity, growth and synergy as a band, morphing and flowing to fit around each musician’s sound. ‘Invisible Things’ features singles “Find My Way”, “Crazy That You Love” and “The Letter”, and has garnered support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Huey Morgan and Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music), Marc Mac (4hero), Garth Trinidad and Aaron Byrd (KCRW), Clash Magazine, Bandcamp Weekly, THUMP, Stereofox, PopMatters, Laurent Garnier and Toshio Matsuura.

“Good For You” was created from a late-night studio session between Danielle and Stephen. “Stephen looked at me and said, ‘when you say to someone “Good For You”, what does that mean?’” Danielle explains, “I picked up the pen and the lines/verses were just spilling out so fast that my brain and hand couldn’t keep up with each other.” Piecing together the track’s flow with additional harmonies and melodies weaved into the vocals, the track becomes the album’s musical partnership centrepiece; “It was such a beautiful night of getting a little drunk, having a one-on-one studio party, head down, vibing”, they add.

Creating a reworking that shines with Shy One’s musical influences from Broken Beat and Soul to Garage, Grime and House, “Good For You (Shy One Remix)” explores a new realm of the track. Beats glide to become the perfect partner for Danielle’s strong soulful vocals: "I usually like to chop up and rearrange vocals with the remixes I do but I loved Aurora Dee Raynes' performance so much I mainly left it as is and just did my thing underneath," Shy One explains.

The remix follows the release of Shy One’s recent EP “From The Floor To The Booth” which builds on the success of the “Decaffeinated Love” EP and her debut LP ‘Bedknobs and Boomkicks’, both released on Scratcha DVA’s DVA Music Imprint. For Shy One, releases utilising the best of rich and eclectic sounds rooted in the original architects of London’s musical underground, sit alongside an abundance of bass heavy, high energy club and festival sets; DJing everywhere from Royal Albert Hall to Scotland’s biggest hydroelectric power station and every festival in between. As her trajectory continues to accelerate, her taste and support for upcoming artists is showcased on radio shows across Balamii, NTS and Rinse FM, and as part of London’s BBZ and Touching Bass collectives.

Created from all the ‘Invisible Things’ that come together to make Aurora Dee Raynes, their album shifts lyrically from raw emotions through to an uplifting party energy, always set against a backdrop of artistic understanding, vocal looping and layering, carefully crafted synths and a treasure trove of percussion. The result of over seven years of writing and recording, ‘Invisible Things’ goes beyond Aurora Dee Raynes’ sounds as individual artists, becoming instead a spirited, forceful piece of work, with themes of love, family and loss running throughout, that is bound intrinsically in who they are as a collective.
